The Half Moon

The Half Moon

The Half Moon

TIME : 11:00 pm Diana was staring at the half-moon and the stars were twinkling at her. She was in the terrace of her house. She was alone. Staring at the half moon reminded her something bad, which she once decided to forget. Half-moon... Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her. From nowhere, appeared Jeffrey, her lover. "Hey!" she said, "Who are....Hey Jeff!" she exclaimed with a baffled face. "Yeah, it's me, honey. Whom did you expect?" Jeffrey said as he sat closer to Diana. Diana was still confused thinking how did Jeffrey reach her terrace. But, never mind, love has no logic. "What made you come here?" Jeffrey asked. "I would rather ask that to you, Jeff. Never mind. Shall we talk sometime?" asked Diana, with eyes full of eagerness. "Sure, honey" said Jeffrey, "If you don't mind, can I wrap my hands around your neck?" "I never said no" replied Diana. Jeffrey did then. For a few seconds, they were silent. Then, Jeffrey broke the ice. "You didn't answer my question." he said. "Oh, yeah" said Diana as she let out a deep breath, "I felt lonely..." "Not now, I guess" said Jeffrey. "Absolutely! Why should I feel lonely when you are beside me?" Diana smiled. "Diana..." said Jeffrey, "Did you ever think why the moon reduces herself regularly?" "Just thought we were about to speak something romantic..." said Diana, "But, yeah, I don't know." she replied. Jeffrey smiled and said, "She shrinks as stars beside her move further. When all leaves her , she disappears. Then, she regrows...all leave her once again...but she disappear to regrow." "Kinda stupid, but I like it." said Diana. "Me, then?" asked Jeffrey. "You are made for me, Jeff. No one could separate you from me." said Diana as she kissed Jeffrey. Few seconds had passed. Diana opened her eyes. No one was around her. She was just kissing the empty air. "Jeff..."she searched for him around. There was no one around her. Then the reality hit her. Jeffrey was dead a week before. She was deep in his thoughts and memories. How did he come in front of her? She had no idea... Then, she looked at the half-moon. "She shrinks when stars move away from her. She disappears to grow again." those words of Jeffrey alarmed in her ears. "I'm that half-moon, Jeff. How could I regrow without you?" said Diana with rainy eyes.

One day when she and her mother were checking out at the grocery store, Jenny saw a plastic pearl necklace priced at $2.50. How she wanted that necklace, and when she asked her mother if she would buy it for her, her mother said, “Well, it is a pretty necklace, but it costs an awful lot of money. I’ll tell you what. I’ll buy you the necklace, and when we get home we can make up a list of chore that you can do to pay for the necklace. And don’t forget that for your birthday Grandma just might give you a whole dollar bill, too. Okay?” Jenny agreed, and her mother bought the pearl necklace for her.
