25 Great Poems

1. Follow fundamentals

Millions tuned in to see the inauguration of the 46th US president, Joe Biden, on Capitol Hill last week. Many across America though felt angry and there were small acts of violence in some cities on the day.
The poem ‘Follow The Fundamentals’ was inspired by news events of last week.

2. A Nation's Stain

A few weeks ago, the leader of the Republic of Ireland apologised to the nation. It was after an investigation into the country’s so called mother and baby homes, the last of which shut only in 1998. The report made for harrowing and heartbreaking reading.
This poem ‘A Nation's Stain’ was written for those women and babies. May we never forget what they went through.

3. Tired

It’s tough for lots of us at the moment, you may have good days, you may feel like you only have bad.
January, Covid, lockdowns, shutdowns, being apart from loved ones — we are all feeling it.
This poem ‘Tired’ was inspired by Coronavirus news headlines this week.

4. Tri Color Phantoms

President Trump is the first US president in history to be impeached twice. It’s after riots by his supporters at the Capitol Building in Washington.
Read Anthony R Salandy’s poem inspired by those events.

5. When Evil Dies

Last week the serial killer Peter Sutcliffe died. He devastated the lives of so many families. Some of them spoke of a sense of closure now.
This is ‘When Evil Dies’

US Election: who else is hooked? Waiting on the results from a few States then that map I keep seeing on my screen will be complete. Will those final pieces be red or blue?
This poem Jigsaw is inspired by what’s going on this week.

7. On Kobe's Wings

Last Sunday the LA Lakers won the NBA championship, nearly nine months after the death of Kobe and Gianna Bryant and seven others.
