Fairy-deary
Written by Priyanka Banerjee, West Bengal (India)
Once upon a time there lived seven fairies. They used to serve the Wasp-King who was very cruel. The King was very strong and seven times bigger than the fairies and whenever the fairies made any mistake, they were stung by the evil Wasp-King. They travelled throughout the kingdom and reported everything to the King. They were afraid of the King and remained sad as the King made each of them wear a thin headband by which all of them were under the spell of the King and was bound to do whatever the King asked them to do.
One day the King ordered his fairies to find a land where everything was made of gold- the trees, the fruits, the houses, the grasses everything. The fairies started to find that unknown Land of Gold. They were quite sure that they could not execute this impossible task and the Wasp King would punish them. When the sun was touching the horizon, the fairies sat on a cloud. They were so tired that they slept there. It was night and there was a terrible storm. When the fairies opened their eyes they understood that they fell in a great danger. They clasped each other tightly and out of fear all of them lost their sense.
Next day when they opened their eyes, they saw that they were lying on a hill. Nothing had happened to them, not a single scratch was there on their bodies. They got up and could not believe their eyes- everything was golden around them. The sun was so bright and beautiful that everything had become golden. This was really the Land of Gold. At first they were very excited and happy to find the Wasp- King’s desired land; but then they thought that the things were not actually made of gold. The greedy and cruel king would punish them and would ask them again to search the Land of Gold. Moreover they did not know how to return. When a serious discussion was going on among them, the White Fairy jumped up suddenly and started to dance joyfully. The other fairies were bedazzled to see that. They asked the White Fairy, “ Why are you dancing?” Very happily the White Fairy replied, “If we don’t know how to return then definitely our devil King also does not know how to come here. We are safe here and we don’t have to go back. We can live here happily. Have you seen one more thing?” “What?” asked the Blue Fairy. “We are free from the spell of the King. Our bands are lost due to that storm.” All the fairies touched their heads and all of them shouted in joy and they started to say, “ Yes, our bands are not here”, “We are out of spell”, “That devil cannot do anything now” etc.
They started to explore the land and they completely fell in love with that beautiful place. At night they realised that the Land of Gold had turned into the Land of Silver because of the argent moonlight. They started calling the place - “Fairy-deary”, a land of perfect happiness. The seven fairies lived there happily, ever after.
